Springtime Saturday Fun!

There is nothing like weekends to spend some time with family! Whether there is an agenda or not, there is something about waking up on a Saturday morning, having that Springtime sunshine peek in the windows while taking a deep breath and realizing that today...work can wait, its all about fun today!Last Saturday we woke up, packed up the car and headed to Iowa City for the Iowa Hawkeye Football Spring Game! We secured a spot in the Kinnick parking lot, unloaded our 'tailgate' fun and relaxed a bit before game time. Dylan was super excited to attend the 'Hawkeye' game/scrimmage, as it was his first time at Kinnick! We have been to a Chicago Bears game and told him about Kinnick that the Hawkeye games were just as fun! Although this was just a Spring scrimmage, it sure took care of our Spring fix for some football!
We sat in the chairs, Dylan got out his bubbles and blew them at the passers by. Before long Brad and Dylan had the football out and were playing catch. It was a nice morning with just a little chill in the air but we were dressed for it and the crowds came which also brought some warmth and eventually some sunshine!

There was a large area out front by the statue that was a Kid Zone for kids. They had jump houses, face painting and snacks! Each entrance also was taking caned food donations to support the cause, 'America Needs Farmers.' We were so proud of Dylan taking up his bag of canned foods to donate, in return he got a couple tattoos which he thought were super cool!

The gates opened at 11 and we headed on in securing our spot, a perfect 5 rows up on the 50 yard line! Daddy was pretty giddy, wishing these were his season seats! The music was blaring and kids were everywhere. Dylan and Brad hit up the concessions for some snacks and pretty soon the sun came out! It turned out to be a beautiful day and we were so happy to be there and had a lot of fun. Brad was happy to scope out the team this year and watch the drills. Great family event we will for sure do again next year!
Herkey came to see the kids!

This Saturday was the start of Spring soccer for Dylan! He is still on the U05 AYSO team as last year. We signed up for the Fall and Spring session so it is fun to see the same kids, coaches etc. Dylan seemed pretty excited during the week with the anticipation leading up to today. He has been playing 'soccer' at school with a few of his friends every single day for months now. The kid loves to kick the ball. At conferences a few weeks ago one of his teachers said to me, 'Have you ever seen Dylan kick a ball?' Yes I certainly have! He is pretty amazing at a drop kick as well which does WOW his teachers a bit! Hey, maybe it will lead to something pretty cool for him?!
This morning Brad and Dylan headed to Tuma bright and early at 7:45 for the first practice and game. Dylan was super excited and one of the things we love about AYSO is that for the 'practice' portion to parents practice with their child. Well that went great then it came to the drills with the other kids and Dylan froze up! UGH! Brad said he shed a few tears saying he didn't want to do it, Brad said he had a short pep talk with him and before he knew it Dylan was out on the field and having a blast! YAY Dylan! He kicked the ball a few times, took the ball down the field even and got barrel rolled a couple times by some bigger players....but he got back up and had a blast! Can't wait until the next game! WTG Dylan!
This afternoon we headed over to the Eddins household to celebrate little Lila's 3rd Birthday! She was so super sweet today and the theme was 'Princess Lila' complete with little tiara's for the girls and even a crown for Dylan, SO cute!

Kirsten and Mike prepared a fantastic lunch for all and we had a great time celebrating with Lila today! The weather was beautiful, the sun came out, and that even allowed for some outdoor play time to work off the wonderful food and homemade cake! It was a wonderful Birthday Celebration fit for the perfect little princess and her friends and family! Happy 3rd Birthday Lila! Can't believe that you are already 3!!!
This afternoon the kids were exhausted, and let me say, that doesn't often happen on a Saturday afternoon!
We relaxed, did some house chores and enjoyed the rest of our Saturday! We enjoy these days of fun and relaxation too! What will next Saturday bring for fun.....? I think it may entail palm trees, sunshine and pool time! Stay tuned!!!!
